Landscaping to Improve Your Home

7/19/2016

Repainting, remodeling and redecorating your home are some obvious ways to increase its value. But did you know the landscaping of your home can help with more than just curb appeal?

Planting trees around your home can be more than just a way to increase your home’s value. Trees around your home can also help save you money on your heating and cooling bills. In the summer time when the temperature is at its highest, having shade trees around your home can help reduce your electric bill by shading your home from the direct sun. To get the full benefit, you should plant the trees around your AC unit and east, west and northwest of your home to help shade it from the full sun.

In the winter, the trees you planted around your home to keep it cool will lose their leaves and allow the sunlight to warm up your home when you need it most. To further help your winter heating bill, you could plant conifer trees a small distance away from your home to act as a windbreaker. This will help shield your home from the harsh winter winds.

In addition to aiding to reduction of you heating and cooling bills, trees are great for the environment and a beautiful addition to any home’s landscape. By planting trees around your home, you are investing in an increase to your property’s appeal, aiding the environment and reducing your bills!
